BEITEDDINE
At 850 metres above sea level
and only 45 minutes away from Beirut, lies the beautiful 19th
century palace of the prince of Lebanon Bechir II who lived
there from the beginning of the 1800s until he was exhiled by
the Ottomans in 1840. The palace had since then different occupants
and now is partially the summer palace of the President of the
Republic. Every summer a music festival hosts some of the most
renown contemporary artists who perform in the open courts of
the palace. Visitors can see all year round the anthropological
museum, the biggest mosaic museum in Lebanon, the superb reception
rooms with cedar wood engravings and velvet divans, the exquisite
hamam, and the gardens. |
