BYBLOS
It’s the oldest continuously
inhabited city in the world where just at a few metres under
a 19th century A.D house, lay remains of dwellings from the
neolithitic period. The whole site is an amalgam of dozens of
civilisations that have prospered in Byblos. In the crusader
citadel amidst the archeological site, a museum displays some
of the findings of the excavations and explains about the first
phonetic alphabet that saw its crucial development in Byblos.
The old city surrounding the site is undoubtedly one of the
most charming spots in Lebanon, with its very ancient harbor,
its restaurants, small souk and jasmine, oleander, orange and
bougainvilliers trees… |
